A gable roof with one side longer than the other and thus closer to the ground unless the pitch on one side is altered. Low pitched roofs are generally difficult to maintain and you need special materials to prevent leaks. These roofs have a pitch less than 4 12. Photography by marc lamkin.

The style consists of 2 sides with a ridge at the peak just like gable but each side actually consists of 2 different pitches. Gambrel roofs are the traditional barn style roof. Raising the high end of this shed roof a few inches will improve the roof drainage and stop the leak problem. Box gable roofs have two sloping sides that meet to form a ridge with a triangular extension on either side that is boxed off from the walls.

The upper slope is low pitched and the lower slope is high pitched.
